This is a work that is very near my heart. It was created to memorialize a childhood 'playhouse' that was created by my daughter, then again years later for her own daughter.

During the creation of the collage, I was in the midst of a time of great tribulation. As I worked I found much solace while reminiscing the many times we sat under the great hemlock tree which made a sheltering canopy for children at play.

Later, the work was purchased by a friend who lost his beloved sister to a sorrowful battle against cancer. The Cardinal was her favorite bird. He said he couldn't pass the artwork without thinking of her.

I like to think the peace I found while creating the collage, passed on to him bring some level of comfort in lonely hours.

Detail: fabric, bark, torn papers (tissue paper was painted for the background,
my own handmade papers was used for the ground area), pressed ferns were also used.

More on collage and the processes
of this art form is explained in About the Art.
